Straight Up! blends the talents of renowned Holyoke, Mass, blues guitarist/singer Ray Chaput with the wailing voice of Janet Ryan, a recent newcomer from southern Fairfield County, Connecticut, by way of Chicago, Illinois. The bands specialty is blues, combined with a soulful rock/funk sound, expanding on classics, taking them to another level. You’ll hear the influence of Etta James and Janis Joplin, the blues of Junior Wells, and the soul of Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin.
Ray C is a master at reviving old blues tunes with a twist of funk and lighting them up with new life. Janet’s strong vocals are best described as going from smoldering and soulful to powerhouse, bringing to mind many of the female rock greats. Backing up Rays' guitar with strong keyboard riffs, Janet also steps out from behind the keys to become a dynamic presence, delivering tunes straight from the heart.
Behind Ray and Janet are two of the areas finest players, always in a groove, keeping the crowd dancing, and always having fun. Rich Adelson drives the band from the drum throne, and Gene Lavoie pounds out the bass.
